Before the constituent session of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament, the members of parliament gathered on Tuesday in Kiel's St. Paul's Church for a church service.
Catholic Archbishop Stefan Hebe and Bishop Gothart Magaard of the Protestant Church of the North presided over the ceremony. Hebe explained in his sermon, to stand speech and answer belongs to the job of a politician. "But from which sources do you draw the basis for it?? From party programs, from laws, from conscience or also from faith?"
Magaard called for a culture "in which we as a society give each other a share not only of our fears, but also of our hope."He wished the deputies to keep the balance between idealism and pragmatism and to shape it.
Biblical guiding principle
The service was guided by the biblical motto "Always be ready to answer anyone who asks about the hope that fills you". The collection was intended for the "Speisesaal Sankt Heinrich" in Kiel, where the needy receive a hot meal daily for one euro.
The 19. The state parliament of Schleswig-Holstein comprises 73 members elected for five years. At their constituent session on Tuesday, the parliamentarians once again elected Klaus Schlie (CDU) as president of the state parliament. The prime minister is expected to attend the second meeting on 28. June elected.
